It demands patience. It records not only what someone claims to believe but also how those beliefs survive the passage of time.
That may be the most encouraging thought to emerge from this period of uncertainty. We often hear that artificial intelligence is making it increasingly difficult to distinguish authentic work from imitation. There is truth in that concern, especially when we focus on individual documents viewed in isolation. A broader perspective suggests another possibility. The easier it becomes to imitate a single page, the more valuable an entire intellectual history becomes. Authenticity begins to reside less in polished presentation and more in the accumulated evidence of years spent learning, questioning, correcting, and creating.
In that sense, the future may not ask writers to prove that every sentence was produced without assistance. It may ask a far more meaningful question. What kind of history does this work reveal? The answer cannot be generated overnight, purchased through promotion, or optimized by following a checklist. It is written gradually through the patient accumulation of thought, one honest piece of work after another. That history, more than any algorithm or platform, is the one thing that cannot be faked.
